Veggie St. Pete

We take the guesswork out of finding vegetarian- and veg-friendly dining spots in downtown St. Petersburg

The Bodega on Central April 25, 2014

It’s a simple little walk-up stand, with tables all around the outside for al fresco dining. logoYou’re going to wait in line a bit, as this place has risen on the popularity meter. Their veg offerings include a chopped romaine salad tossed with fresh fruit and veggies with chili lime dressing; a plato dinner with black beans and rice, mojo tofu and grilled veg; and a tofu-veg version of a Cuban sandwich. Locally-made ice cream bars are what’s for dessert, and yes of course! you bet you can tank up on hi-octane Cuban coffee.

Lonni’s Sandwiches August 10, 2011

This popular ‘healthy’ sandwich spot is famous for its generous portions, but mostly famous for its thick, homemade wild rice bread that most of their sandwiches are served on. Good vegan options include the “custom vegetarian” sandwich which has cukes, alfalfa sprouts, onion, lettuce, tomato and black olives with a sprinkling of sunflower seeds; tomato stuffed with wild rice salad; gazpacho; the guacamole & sprouts sandwich; and the Southwest wrap. Lonni’s also has plenty of salad options; feel free to ask them to omit egg or cheese-based dressing. Sandwich/soup, sandwich/salad and soup/salad combos available. Freshly-brewed iced tea (regular, tropical or mango), water and coffee are the beverages of choice.

Catering and delivery available. Open Mon-Fri 9am-3:30pm.

The light cafe menu features easy fare like salads and wraps; the Strawberry Salad, Sunshine Salad and Granny Smith Apple Salad are good vegetarian bets; there is also the Hummus Wrap and Veggie Wrap. Ask for the vegan salad dressings. The tapenade and hummus crudite and cheese globe are good plates for sharing. Moscato’s Bella Cucina May 2, 2011

This fairly new restaurant, run by a brother-sister team, has a (thankfully) limited menu, which is actually quite veggie-friendly. Two dinner-sized salads, the Signature Salad and the Bella Cucina Salad, can be easily veganized by omitting the cheese- plus, they offer some good proteins and extra veg to add to the salad: garbanzo beans, kidney beans, corn, peas, beets, mushrooms, roasted red peppers, hot cherry peppers. Moscato’s also offers two vegetarian personal pizzas – ‘Grandma’s’, and the ‘veggie.’  Pasta dishes abound here too, as well as a vegetable wrap and eggplant parmesan sandwich. Live entertainment on the weekends. Beer and wine available.
